EASLEY—With back-to-back wins last week, the Easley High basketball team finds itself in a good position as it heads down the home stretch of the regular season schedule.

After suffering a blowout loss to Hillcrest early in the week, The Green Wave bounced back to secure wins over J.L. Mann and Wren to push its overall record to 12-5 on the year.

Nothing came easy for the Wave on Jan. 8 against Hillcrest, however. Easley fell behind early and never managed to slim the margin in a 63-34 loss.

Easley was outscored in every period posting, 29-11 halftime deficit after a three point second quarter.

The Green Wave was led by Matt Preston, who notched 12 points on the night. Twin brother Alex Preston was the team’s next highest scorer with nine in the game. Neico Robinson posted seven points of his own.

Easley needed every point it could muster, included a late go-ahead shot by Robinson, to secure victory over Mann on Jan. 11.

After falling behind in the first three quarters, the Green Wave used a fourth quarter surge to squeak past a feisty Mann squad in a 56-54 win.

A shot at the buzzer from Robinson sealed the win for Easley.

Hot shooting from Alex Preston kept the Green Wave in the contest, however, as the senior dropped 20 points on the night. Senior Carter Norris added 14 of his own to the effort, while Robinson contributed six to the win.

After an emotional win over a region opponent, Easley managed to secure a season sweep over rival Wren High on Jan. 12 with a 51-38 victory.

The Green Wave managed to build a slim 17-14 halftime margin over the hurricanes, but used a 25 point fourth quarter outburst to cruise past Wren on the road.

Alex Preston led the way once again with 13 points on the evening. Norris contributed 11 of his own and Jake Foster was the third Green Wave player to score in double figures with 10.

Easley traveled to Woodmont on Tuesday (results were not available at press time), before hosting a rematch with Hanna on Friday.

The Green Wave fell to Hanna earlier in the year by nearly 20 points.

Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
