EASLEY—A hot offense led by a veteran point guard propelled the Easley High boys’ basketball team to its first win on Friday night.

The Green Wave, led by senior Troy McGowens who scored a game high 25 points, handled Pickens by a score of 78-60 in the season opener.

Easley’s offense came out hot in the first quarter, fueling a 14-0 run that put the Blue Flame in a hole early. The Green Wave led by 29 points at one point in the second quarter, and held a 22 point lead at the break.

Pickens came storming back in the second half, however, cutting the Easley lead to just 12 after several three’s hit their mark.

Jordan Stewart led the comeback effort for the Flame, burying three shots beyond the arch in the third period. Stewart, who is currently serving as Pickens’ sixth man, led the team with 21 points.

The comeback would be all for nothing, as Easley surged ahead for an 18-point victory.

Along with McGowens’ game-high, Alex and Matt Preston, Easley’s twin threat from the outside, also had successful nights shooting the ball.

Alex Preston ended the game with 17 points, while Matt Preston finished with 15 points.

Easley took on Laurens Tuesday night at home, and will face the Blue Flame again on Thursday in Pickens.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
