PICKENS COUNTY—A Central woman was sentenced to three years behind bars after being convicted on reckless homicide and hit-and-run charges last week.

Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins said 28-year old Astrid Muller was convicted by a Greenville County jury on Nov. 8, and was sentenced to six years in prison. Muller was suspended upon three years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections by the Honorable Larry Hyman.

The solicitor’s office said in a statement that Muller will have to serve at least 85 percent of the 3 year sentence before she becomes eligible for parole.

According to evidence presented at the trial by assistant solicitors Sara Lee Drawdy and Elizabeth Major, Muller was involved in a fatal traffic accident on Oct. 9, 2010.

Solicitors say Muller was maneuvering in and out of traffic at a high speed on Highway 123 a little after 9 p.m., when she struck James David Grisham, who was riding a moped in the outside southbound lane.

Grisham, who was killed almost instantly, was returning home to Easley after spending the afternoon at Fall for Greenville in downtown Greenville.

Muller did not stop.

She continued driving her severely damaged vehicle, and successfully hid her car from law enforcement personnel, who were out looking for a damaged car that may have been involved in the collision.

A subsequent investigation conducted by the SC Highway Patrol and by the patrol’s Piedmont MAIT team led to Muller’s arrest in the early morning hours of Oct. 11, 2010.
