POWDERSVILLE — The Powdersville Patriots played a solid four quarters at home when the Berea Bulldogs came to town Sept. 4, posting a big 24-14 win to move their record to 2-1 on the season behind the running of E. J. Humphrey and solid QB play of Emery Williams.
Humphrey would lead the Patriots’ scoring attack with two TD’s on the night to go with 100-yard rushing effort. Williams would connect with J. J. Gentile for an 8-yard TD through the air, with he and Humphrey combining for three of the Patriots’ scores. Humphrey’s longest run of the night and Powdersville’s first score of the game came on the Patriots first possession.
Humphrey’s second score from two yards out came in the second quarter and Williams found Gentile halfway through the third, which would extend the Powdersville lead to 24-7 at that point, giving the Patriots the opportunity to put the game away.
In the third, Berea’s Colby Pressley ran for a 14-yard TD and with the PAT the Bulldogs would close the score to 24-14 but Powdersville’s defense would prove too much for the Bulldogs, shutting Berea out for the remainder of the game.
Powdersville had jumped out to an early 10-0 lead in the first half and Berea’s only other score came in the second quarter when Travis Hagood would rush to the end zone from the 12-yard line to make it a 10-7 Powdersville lead.
The Patriots’ Austin Snow would contribute two field goals on the night, giving Powdersville the 27-14 win.
The Patriots play host to Travelers Rest on Sept. 11. Kick off is at 7:30 p.m.
