PIEDMONT — Two Wren High School legends will be honored this year by the S.C. Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame for leaving their mark on the record books and for making a difference in the lives of their students athletes.

Fran Campbell and Lynn Hicks, with over 75 years coaching experience in the Palmetto State combined, both have been a part of the Golden Hurricane tradition. Campbell is still at the helm of the Wren’s boys’ program.

Campbell has been the head coach for Wren for the last 33 years and is still on the sidelines calling plays with a long list of achievements to his credit. His career record as head coach is 545-311. He has led his teams to 11 region championships and 25 playoff appearances.

He has been named Region Coach of the Year 11 times. In 1994 he was named AP Coach of the Year representing all classifications for South Carolina. Wren has appeared in two upper state finals, and captured the upper state championship in 1994.

Wren finished as State AAA runner-up to the Jermaine O’Neal led Eau Claire team that same year.

Campbell served as assistant coach in the North-South All-Star Game in 1996 and was selected as the head coach of the North squad in the North-South All Star Game in 2003, and of the South Carolina team in the Carolina’s Classic All Star Game in 2006.

Campbell has been active in the S.C. Basketball Coaches Association during his career. He served on the board for five years, two years as vice president and one year as president of that association.

Hicks, also still leading the girls’ program at Wren, began her career at McDuffie High School and coached two years there as an assistant. She has been head coach at Wren High School for the last 33 years. Her teams have compiled a 540-316 record. Her teams have won seven region championships and made 24 playoff appearances in 33 years.

She has received seven Coach of the Year awards throughout her career. Her Wren teams appeared in the upper state finals in 1993, 2006 and 2012. In 2016, they lost a heartbreaker to Dreher High School in the upper state finals.

She served as an assistant coach in the North-South All-Star Game in 1997 and as the head coach of the North girls team in the North-South All-Star Game in 2000, then later she was selected as the head coach for the South Carolina girls team in the Carolinas Classic All Star game versus North Carolina in 2008.

Hicks has been active in the S.C. Basketball Coaches Association and served as region representative, and on the Board of Directors for many years.

Campbell and Hicks will be inducted into the Hall of Fame, along with two others, on March 18 at Seawell’s Restaurant in Columbia in conjunction with the 67th annual North-South All Star Game Weekend in Columbia. The event begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25.
