Pickens season ends with loss to Belton-Honea Path

Overall, Coach John Boggs’ team went 4-6, 3-4 in region and finished out the year ranked 115 in the state, a slight improvement upon last year for the first year coach.

Much of the Blue Flame team will be returning next season. Although not as sophomore heavy as schools like Daniel, a respectable number of junior and senior players should make for a more solid D line and experienced offense.

After scoring twice in the first, the BHP defense held the Blue Flame to zero. A touchdown in the second restored some hopes for Pickens’ fans but as BHP put up yet another 21 points, the half ended 35-7. The Blue Flame season was brought to a close on Friday with the 49-17 loss at home against Belton-Honea Path.

PICKENS — The Pickens High School Blue Flame season was brought to a close on Friday with a 49-17 loss at home against Belton-Honea Path.

Going into Friday’s game, play-off hopes were already slim for the 2015 season. Not only did Pickens need the win against Belton-Honea Path but they also needed Wren to lose and Daniel had to take down Seneca. None of that happened.

After scoring twice in the first, the Belton-Honea Path defense held the Blue Flame to zero. A touchdown in the second restored some hopes for Pickens fans but as Belton-Honea Path put up yet another 21 points, the half ended 35-7.

The third quarter would remain scoreless for Pickens while the Bears high-powered offense continued to put up points.

A fourth quarter rally gave the Blue Flame 10 unanswered points but it was too little, too late. The game ended 49-17, with Belton-Honea Path notching the win.

In the 2014 season, Pickens ended with a 3-8, 3-4 record and was ranked 138th although they did make the first round of the playoffs where they were defeated 56-13 by Wren.
