WALHALLA — The Pickens Blue Flame (3-3, 2-1) found themselves on fire Friday night as they rolled to a 44-10 road win over Walhalla’s Razorbacks (1-5, 1-3) behind a breakout ground game.
With over 300 yards rushing on the night, the impact expected to be brought on by the weather was nonexistent as the football gods smiled and stopped the rain, even if it was for a brief period of time consisting of four quarters.
In the end, this played against the Razorbacks opening up the Blue Flame’s potent ground assault.
Pickens jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, despite a field goal by Walhalla to cut the first quarter lead to 7-3, giving the contest the early look of a contest.
It would be the second and third quarters where Walhalla would meet its doom as Pickens broke free, scoring 23 unanswered points, including a defensive score on a safety in the second just before the half. Pickens stretched the lead to 30-7 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the game all but over for Walhalla.
Pickens would add two more TD’s to its total and the Razorbacks would score a meaningless TD late to cut the score to 44-10, the final score on the night.
