EASLEY—An 89-year old Easley man is dead after crashing his 2009 Toyota on Popefield road on Saturday afternoon.
Samuel Ralph Scott of 208 High Ridge Ct., Easley, was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital shortly after 1:40 p.m. on Saturday as a result of a head-on collision.
Scott later passed away from injuries suffered in the crash, according to Pickens County Deputy Coroner Gary Duncan.
Thirty-six year old Tron McCoy, who was driving a 2011 Ford pickup, was also transported to Greenville Memorial for his injuries.
According to Lance Corporal Bill Rhyne, the two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions on Popefield Road when Scott initiated the collision.
“(Scott), for unknown reasons, crossed the centerline on Popefield road, striking (McCoy) head on,” Rhyne said.
Both drivers were wearing a seatbelt, were not ejected and were not entrapped.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
An autopsy for Scott was scheduled for Monday.
