Arrests made in Chimney Ridge shooting

PICKENS COUNTY—Authorities have made arrests in a shooting that left a Clemson University student dead last week.

Jordan Charles Dalton, 19, Jaron Bradley Dalton, 24, and Bernard Kadeen Ramsey, 19, were arrested in connection with the home invasion, robbery and death that occurred at 201 Smoke Rise Drive in the Chimney Ridge complex in Central on Saturday evening. Clemson Student Steven Gregory Grich, 23, died of a gunshot would in the incident.

“We got a break in the case,” Lt. J.B. Kelley said. “Somebody in the community came forward who was familiar with the situation. Due to the good relationships our school resource officers have with students, we were able to receive a tip and go forward with the investigation.”

The tip led investigators to Bernard Ramsey, and subsequent investigation implicated the Daltons’ and Mosley.

Both Dalton brothers voluntarily chose to speak with investigators, authorities said.

All are charged with murder, armed robbery, first degree burglary and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Warrants have been issued for the arrest of Lester Devaria Mosley, Jr., 19, who is considered by authorities to be armed and dangerous.

Jordan Dalton is a graduate of Daniel High, and played football at Daniel in 2011. Ramsey is a Daniel student this year, and played basketball for Daniel last year. Jaron Dalton is a graduate of Liberty High, and Mosely attended Daniel but did not graduate.

Authorities say the intent of the group was to rob the deceased victim’s roommate of what they believed to be a large amount of marijuana.

“One of the occupants that lives in the same apartment where the home invasion (took place) was dealing drugs,” Kelley said. “Their (the suspects) plan was to come in and rob them.”

Only a few grams were actually taken.

Kelley said the suspects were armed from the beginning from of the home invasion.

“They entered with guns and began assaulting people when they went in,” Kelley said.

Grich was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital for an autopsy.

The hunt is still on for Mosley, according to investigators.

“We’re getting tips and we’re trying to follow up on them,” Kelley said. “We’ve got all our resources and we’re reaching out to other agencies within the county. It’s a combined effort to try to locate him as quickly as possible and get him off the street.”

Sheriff’s Detectives were assisted by investigators from Clemson University Police Department and the Clemson Police Department in the arrests.

Anyone with information on Mosley’s whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 864-898-5500.
