EASLEY – Now that Chad Smith has moved on, Easley High School is in need of another head football coach.

“We are certainly excited about the opportunity of hiring the best possible coach for the kids in our program. I think that you need a good attitude going in, and I think that we have to see this as another opportunity for someone else,” said Chris Carter, Easley High School athletic director. “The best selling point for Easley High School is that it is a one school town and our town loves football.”

The hiring process is expected to end before the spring.

“We posted the job last week on the School District of Pickens County’s website and it will remain until Thursday, Jan. 17. At that time, Dr. Mullis and I will sit down and look at the applicants. We also have assembled a search committee that will be involved in the review of those applications and sit in on the interviews,” Carter said. “We plan on having 90 minute interviews with a 30 minute tour of the school, but prior to doing those interviews, we will have phone interviews.”

Once the interviews are complete, school officials expect to narrow it down to three final candidates.

“We hope to take about a week to ten days for the interviews, and after that, we will narrow it down to a final three, then we will make the decision on who will be the best candidate for the future,” Carter said. “All in all, we hope to have somebody in place by the end of February.”

According to Carter, there are no particular prospects in mind.

“At this point, all doors are open. We are taking applications from anyone that is interested and that may be people on our current staff or people in our community,” Carter said. “The kids are resilient and I hope they trust in me to find the best possible candidate.”

School officials have a wide range of qualifications necessary to fill the position.

“We will look at guys who have not been head coaches and we will look at guys who have been coordinators at other schools. We are going to look at anybody and everybody,” Carter said. “Right now, the most important thing for us is to find a quality person and a guy that is in the business for the right reasons.”
