SWU cross country schedule announced

CENTRAL- The Southern Wesleyan University women’s cross country schedule has been announced for the 2012 season by Head Coach Chip Rouse, which includes a home race for the Warriors on Saturday, September 29th in the Warrior Invitational.

“The future is bright for Southern Wesleyan cross country,” stated Rouse. “This might be the best team we have ever had in school history. We have a very challenging schedule, but we are anxious to see how we stack up against some of the best competition in the Southeast.”

The SWU women will open up at the Lee Invitational on Saturday, August 25th and will follow that with a meet at the Eye Opener Invitational held in Spartanburg, S.C. on Saturday, August 31st.

The Warrior women return four of their top runners from last season in Meg Donaldson, Allison Droddy, Erica Segars, and Sierra Zemanick. The Warriors had 2-1st place finishes, 2-2nd place finishes, and 1-3rd place finish, while each of the four runners all have qualified individually for the NAIA Cross Country National Championships. For the first time in school history, SWU had 3 runners qualify last season for the NAIA Cross Country National Championships in Droddy, Segars, and Zemanick, with Donaldson qualifying in 2009.

Following their date in Spartanburg, SWU will travel to Montreat College for the Montreat Invitational on Saturday, September 15th. The Warrior women will then take part at the Truett-McConnell Invitational in Cleveland, Ga. on Saturday, September 22nd before their home meet on 9/29.

SWU will finish out their regular season schedule on Friday, October 12th at the Toccoa Falls Invitational and the Sandshark Invitational hosted by USC-Beaufort on Saturday, October 20th.

The Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Championships will be held in Clinton, Miss. on Saturday, November 3rd. The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Nationals and the NAIA Nationals will take place in back-to-back weeks on Saturday, November 10th and Saturday, November 17th in Cedarville, Ohio and Vancouver, Wash. respectively to round out the 2012 schedule.
