CENTRAL — Christiana Perkins and Chelsie Waters have been named honorable mention All-Americans by the National Christian College Athletic Association in women’s basketball. The duo helped lead Southern Wesleyan to the NCCAA National Tournament this season.
Perkins was the leading scorer on the season for SWU, averaging 12.4 points per game and was second on the team with 6.3 rebounds per game. The redshirt-sophomore from Neptune Beach, Fla. also led the team with 50 made three-pointers and shot 34 percent from beyond the arc. She was second with 61 total assists and 57 steals.
Waters, a sophomore from Warner Robins, Ga., was the catalyst for the offense all season long, leading the team with 121 assists and finishing third in scoring at 10.7 points per game. She was a force with the ball in her hand, getting to the free throw line 180 times on the year, knocking down 137 which was good for a 76 percent clip. Waters also proved to be a threat from beyond the arc, knocking down 51 percent of her three-point attempts.
SWU finished the season at 15-18 after winning the NCCAA South Region Championship and advancing to the national tournament. At the national tournament the Warriors finished seventh after beating the hosts from Grace College (Ind.) in their final game 73-72.
