EASLEY – The Green Wave has been on a roll in October.
After losing four of its first five games, the Easley High football team has bounced back to win its last three, putting a playoff push not so far out of reach.
Easley’s latest win came against a struggling Woodmont team. The Green Wave took control from the start, holding the Wildcat offense to just one score during its 17-7 win. The win moves Easley overall record to 4-4 on the season with a 3-1 record in the region.
Woodmont now sits at 3-5 with a 1-3 conference record.
Easley kicker Scott Mode got Easley on the board early in the first quarter, capping off a red-zone drive with a 35-yard field goal to give the Green Wave a 3-0 advantage on the road.
Just minutes later, Thomas Bullard extended the lead for Easley, catching a 4-yard touchdown pass from Holden Martin to give the Green Wave a 10-0 lead.
The Easley defense held strong throughout the majority of the first half, giving way to a Woodmont score as the clock ticked down in the second. The Wildcats cut the Easley lead to just three with 1:48 remaining before the break.
Deequon Arnold provided some assurance for the Green Wave, scoring on a 10-yard run early in the fourth quarter to extend Easley’s lead to 17-7. That score would ultimately be enough to seal Easley’s fourth win of the season in a key road game.
Chad Smith led the attack on the ground for Easley, gaining 108 yards on 24 carries in Friday night’s contest. Easley quarterback Dalton Black also had a big game on offense, completing 10 of 18 passing for 114 yards. Hakeim Warren had two catches for 63 yards while Bullard caught three passes for 36 yards and a score.
The road will likely get a little rockier for Easley in the final three weeks of the season. The Green Wave’s next two opponents have a combined three losses on the season.
Easley will host 5-2 Greenwood this Friday, before hitting the road to face 7-1 Hillcrest the following week. The Green Wave will put the finishing touches on the regular season at home against JL Mann on Nov. 8.
Kickoff for Friday night’s matchup with Greenwood is set for 7:30 p.m.
