PICKENS – The School District of Pickens County has named two veteran educators as principals of two of the county’s high schools, effective with the beginning of the 2014-15 school year.

Josh Young will be the new principal at Daniel High School and Gary Culler will lead Easley High School as its new principal. Culler will transfer from R.C. Edwards Middle School, where he has served as principal since 2008.

Young comes to Daniel High from Walhalla High School, where he has served as principal since 2012. Prior to his time at Walhalla High, Young spent his entire career in Pickens County. He completed his student teaching at Gettys Middle School in 2000 before being hired as a World Geography teacher at Easley High School.

oung was promoted to Assistant Principal at EHS, and he served in that role for seven years.

He holds a bachelor of arts degree in Secondary Education and a master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from Clemson University.

Young is currently working toward an Ed. S. in Educational Administration and Supervision, also from Clemson University.

Walhalla High School thrived academically under Young’s leadership, earning “Excellent” ratings in both general performance and growth last year. He is well equipped to carry on the tradition of excellence that has distinguished Daniel High School for many years.

Young and his wife, Allison, have been married for 11 years, and they have two children.

Culler is no stranger to EHS. He worked there from 2000-2008, first as a science teacher and then as an Assistant Principal. Prior to teaching at EHS, he taught science at Woodmont High School and Lancaster High School.

He holds a bachelor of science degree in Science Teaching, and a M.Ed. plus 30 in Educational Leadership from Clemson University. He and his wife, Melissa, have been married for 21 years, and they have two children.

Culler brings with him a track record of success. R.C. Edwards has achieved a South Carolina report card grade of “Excellent” for five straight years under his leadership, with “Good” or “Excellent” growth scores for five years as well.

The search for a new principal for R.C. Edwards will begin immediately.
