On the evening of Saturday, May 3, the Pickens High School jazz band performed four full sets of music ranging from swing to Latin to a fantastic vocal performance by student Brooke Thomas.
These kids personify the best that Pickens has to offer in their conduct, grades, and talent. There are few schools anywhere that could offer as much. The support from the school and community was impressive, with principal Marion Lawson, assistant principal Max Monroe, and Rep. Davey Hiott in attendance.
These gentlemen have a sincere interest in and appreciation for the program. Band director Chaz Paxton is an excellent teacher of both music and life skills, and his students are better people for having been taught by him. I would like to personally thank those who continue to make Pickens High School a first-class student experience. Yes, it’s true, I have a PHD (Pickens High Diploma).
