Hundreds of people clad in pink and pink decorations on Lafayette Square turned all downtown the distinctive hue to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month during today’s Paint the Town Pink and the H.O.P.E. for a Day walk events.

The event, which LaGrange Mayor Jeff Lukken told those gathered was “by far, the best one we’ve ever had,” raises funds for breast cancer research and promotes awareness of the disease. Area health care agencies were on hand to give out information and provide free examinations.

Organizer Pam Herndon said the H.O.P.E. for a Day walk drew about 170 people this year, about 20 more than last year. The walk, in its fourth year, also had participants from across the state, and as far away as South Carolina.

See Monday’s edition for our full coverage of the event.
