PICKENS – Empty storefronts along Main Street in Pickens will soon showcase posters designed by the Pickens Revitalization Association to entice potential business owners.

“As part of our business recruitment efforts in downtown Pickens, we have designed two posters to go in the windows of the empty storefronts downtown,” said Executive Director of the PRA, Allison Fowler. “We want to attract attention by dressing up the exteriors of these buildings and let people know they are available and there are also façade grant opportunities attached to them.”

According to Fowler, there are six empty storefronts along Main Street.

“With the current number of empty storefronts and based on the market study we had done last fall, we really want to target specific businesses to fill these spaces,” Fowler said. “This is a way to get ideas in front of people and partner with our business recruitment brochure that was recently published. We want to make these empty storefronts known to people relocating here to Pickens.”

Fowler said the PRA and the City of Pickens would like to see a restaurant, ice cream shop, furniture store, clothing boutique, or jewelry store fill the empty slots.

“Based on the research from our market study, we are targeting specific businesses that would entertain anyone,” she said. “We are targeting these types of businesses as needs for our area and so we are focusing on them first.”

The posters are expected to be placed in the empty storefronts by mid-September.

“The posters have already been ordered and we are just waiting for them to arrive,” Fowler said. “It will take us about a week to put them up in the specific locations.”

Fowler thanked Thomas Reality for allowing the PRA to place the posters in the buildings downtown.
