UNION — A local dance instructor will continue to follow her dream as she opens a new dance studio in Union.
Staci Vaughan began taking dance classes at age two-and-a-half.
“On that first day of class, I told my mom I was going to be a dance teacher,” Vaughan said. “I’ve been teaching for six years now.”
Vaughan has danced virtually her entire life, and she began doing so competitively at age 12. She has won numerous national and state dance titles and danced in the 2000 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and at Disney World’s 100th anniversary celebration.
In addition to her background in dance, Vaughan also holds a bachelor’s degree from Limestone College in business administration and has experience in customer service.
From 6-8 p.m. today (Thursday, July 10) Vaughan will hold registration at the new Unique Steps Dance Studio, located at 411 Rice Avenue, Union.
Competition tryouts will be held at the school on Monday, Aug. 11; Tuesday, Aug. 12; and Thursday, Aug. 14. Classes will begin Monday, Aug. 18.
Vaughan said her strong point has always been clogging, and she will set Unique Steps Dance Studio apart from other studios by forming a competition clogging production featuring 30 or more students this year.
Classes will be for ages two-and-a-half and up, and they will include a tap/ballet combination class and a clogging/jazz combination class, as well as clogging, hip hop, lyrical and Riverdance classes.
Vaughan said she plans to take this dance studio very seriously, especially when it comes to competition. She also said she has a great support system in her family. She and her husband, Nick Vaughan, had a daughter, Matti, in January.
“Both our families are very supportive,” she said.
