A massive fire broke out at a residence on Adams Road in West Point that left the house in ruins Tuesday.

According to Capt. Jene Hoge of the Troup County Fire Department, firefighters recieved a call around 2:30 p.m. reporting a structure fire in the first block of Adams Road. No one was present at the house when the blaze began. The homeowners have been identified as Amelia and Gilbert Keith.

“The homeowner said that the last person left the house around 7:15 a.m,” Hoge said.

“When our units got on the scene, the structure was fully involved. The units in route saw the smoke from several miles away. Apparently it had been burning for a while. We also had about a three acre grass and wood fire behind the structure.”

Hoge says that the cause and origin of the fire is still being investigated.
