PICKENS COUNTY — Remember this weekend’s Christmas events across the county.

First among them will be the Grand Illumination in downtown Easley beginning at 5 p.m. In Old market Square.

Events are intended to bring people downtown for the event of lighting the city’s Christmas tree and include music and carriage rides.

Merchants in downtown will also be available to show off their wares. Restaurants will be open for dinner and treats.

One unique offering among merchants is at Poor Richard Book Seller on Main Street.

The winding path Bobby Holliday took creating “Crown of the Carolinas” was a lot like one of the many trails that wind through these Carolina Mountains. Holliday, now 62, was in his 40s when he started the project in 1998. The idea came while traveling. “When I would tell people I was from South Carolina, they would immediately think of Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head or Charleston. They would only associate the mountains with North Carolina, but this mountain goodness goes on beyond the borderlines. It seemed that the mountains of South Carolina were a very well kept secret.”

Holliday, an Easley resident has found a way through music, stories, pictures and videos to tell a story about what he feels is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

He has produced a DVD of that story and will be showing it off Friday night at Poor Richards Book Seller .

He will sign copies of the dvd for sale and show of excerpts in addition to talking and answering questions about the project.

Holliday will be at Poor Richards 6 – 7 p.m. During the Grand Illumination.

Easley’s Christmas Parade is set for downtown at 10 a.m Saturday.

Central Christmas Parade is at 10 a.m., also and Six Mile parade is at 10:30.

Liberty’s Christmas Parade will take place 3 p.m. Sunday as will Pendleton’s.
