For the second time in two days, fire engulfed a home in Troup County.

This one happened shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday at a residence in the 3000 block of Bartley Road.

Troup County firefighters rushed to the scene, where gusty winds made a difficult situation a little bit harder. At one point, flames jumped across the road and into a field. That fire was put out quickly.

But according to a family member at the scene, the blaze destroyed their grandmother’s home, an RV, and a pull behind camper. They also said flames reached into the attic of a second home on the property, but firefighters were able to stop the blaze from reaching the rest of the house. The family member said no one lived in the grandmother’s home.

The Troup County Fire Department said no one was home when the fire started. A neighbor called it in after smelling smoke. Investigators said they still don’t know what sparked the fire, which caused about $40,000 dollars worth of damage.

Troup County Sheriffs deputies closed down part of Bartley Road so firefighters could battle the blaze.

Troup County firefighters are still investigating.
