ANDERSON — Charges on Kyle Christopher Hand have been upgraded to hit and run resulting in death.

Per warrants issued by the Magistrate’s Office, Hand was the driver of the vehicle that stuck Carol Marie Rogenski. Hand failed to stop and render aid to her and instead left the scene and failed to return.

The incident occurred on July 8 at the Stay Lodge on Extended Lane in Anderson. Deputies responding to the call found Rogenski lying motionless in the lodge’s parking lot. She was transported to AnMed Medical Center for treatment, where she later died from her injuries.

Due to her and her family’s final wishes, her body was placed on life support pending an evaluation for organ donation. Once the donated organs were harvested, her body was turned over to the Coroner’s Office.

“We are saddened by Ms. Rogenski’s passing, but out of this tragedy she has provided others with the chance for a better life,” Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper said. “Her generous gift is an inspiration to us all.”

The traffic charges on Hand were upgraded from hit and run resulting in great bodily injury to hit and run resulting in death. The new charge carries a penalty of 1 to 25 years in prison and a fine of from $10,000 to $25,000.

Hand was also charged with grand larceny since he took and was driving Rogenski’s 2006 Jeep Liberty at the time of the incident. Hand remains in the Anderson County Detention Center. He was denied bond.
