CLEMSON – A man being sought by the Clemson Police Department for the assault of a woman was arrested by members of the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office just after midnight Wednesday.
Police Chief Jimmy Dixon issued a release Wednesday morning stating that Charnel Wayne Johnson was taken into custody and would be transferred to the Pickens County Detention Center while waiting on a bond hearing before a Circuit Court judge.
“The assistance of the Sheriff (Rick) Clark and his personnel cannot go understated in searching for Johnson,” Dixon said.
According to reports, a female reported she was outside of her apartment at Falls Landing Apartments on Old Central Road when someone came up behind her and dragged her into the apartment. The incident happened around 8:45 p.m. Aug. 9.
Once inside, the woman was choked until she was unconscious. When she regained consciousness, she saw that the man was still in her apartment and was trying to steal her television set. When he realized she was conscious, he ran.
Warrants were signed charging him with first-degree burglary and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, Dixon said.
