SC United Ways providing hurricane help

Staff Report

COLUMBIA – United Ways throughout South Carolina are working to help with relief and recovery efforts following Hurricane Matthew.

The United Way Association of South Carolina (UWASC) has set-up a Hurricane Matthew Relief fund that will be distributed to United Ways in affected communities. All of the funds will remain in South Carolina for relief and recovery from the hurricane.

No administrative fees will be taken. Individuals can text UNITEDSC to 41444 or visit www.uwasc.org/hurricanematthew to make a donation.

UWASC has established www.VolunteerSC.org in partnership with the South Carolina Emergency Management Division to connect volunteers with voluntary agencies assisting with efforts throughout the state.

Organizations looking for volunteers can register their projects and find volunteers on the site. Potential volunteers are encouraged to register and check the site daily for opportunities. Projects will be added as the needs arise.

Anyone seeking information on resources can dial 2-1-1 any time. It’s a free information and referral service available 24 hours per day, seven days a week. SC 2-1-1 is made available throughout the state by United Way.
