Missing man found dead in Six Mile

SIX MILE – The body Spartanburg County man reported missing July 14 after visiting a friend in Six Mile was found Thursday night in a secluded area behind Six Mile Elementary School.

A release from the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office indicated that a motorcycle belonging to Christopher Allen Tankersley, 30, was found parked in a secluded area behind the school near a nature trail.

Evidence at the scene indicates that he had been dead for several days and that he died from self-inflicted injuries. A shotgun Tankersley had bought from a friend on the date of his disappearance was also recovered at the location.

Tankersley was last seen July 13 after visiting a friend in Six Mile. Tankersley left on a 2016 Kawasaki motorcycle and said he was going home to Boiling Springs but never arrived.

The PCSO found his body around 9 p.m. Thursday after a resident reported seeing his motorcycle parked in a secluded area behind Six Mile Elementary School.
