CENTRAL – On March 15, Southern Wesleyan University students took time out from their class routines to reach out into the surrounding community for a day of cleaning, organizing, fixing, landscaping and reaching out to young and old – all in the spirit of Christian service.

During the university’s annual Day of Service, 235 students joined 33 members of the faculty and staff to engage in projects at 23 sites across the Upstate.

Participation this year was up over last year, according to Dr. Justin Carter, Southern Wesleyan’s associate vice president for student life. Day of Service sites included Asbury Hills Camp and Retreat Center, Clemson-Central Recreation Center, Clemson Downs (Clemson Area Retirement Center), Central and Pendleton elementary schools, Girl Scouts, Golden Corner Ministries, Habitat for Missions, Our Daily Rest, Potters Place, United Assembly and the Wounded Warrior Project. Work also took place at Southern Wesleyan’s Hundred Acre Woods, LORE Center and the Criminal Justice house.
