PICKENS COUNTY — Tim Morgan, former assistant sheriff for the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, has announced his intention to run against Sheriff Rick Clark in the upcoming election.
“After much thought and prayerful consideration and with the support of my family, I feel a calling and some sense of duty to offer to continue to serve our community,” said Morgan.
Morgan previously ran for sheriff in 2012 after Clark defeated then-incumbent Sheriff David Stone in the primary, snagging the Republican nomination. Despite running as an Independent, Morgan still managed 16,259 votes, just under 38 percent.
“If I believed the leadership of the Sheriff’s Office was doing an adequate job in managing the office and serving the public, I would not be seeking this office,” said Morgan. “I am running on my record of demonstrated service and results, not just campaign rhetoric.”
Morgan stated that he would like to see the Sheriff’s Office be more proactive across the board.
“Just as a homeowner can take steps to make his house a less attractive target for crime than his neighbor’s, there are steps we can take to make Pickens County a more uncomfortable place for those who choose to break society’s laws,” said Morgan. “The office of sheriff belongs to the citizens. The person occupying the position is just the temporary custodian of the office.”
