Staff Report

PICKENS — Hagood Mill’s “Deep Winter Blues” event on Feb. 20 will feature bluesman Steve McGaha with finger style picker and country bluesman David Donar playing some red hot tunes.

Hagood Mill will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the day of the event. Music will be played from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In addition to music, Donar is a cartoonist and illustrator whose favorite subject matter are all the various musicians who perform and jam at the Hagood Mill throughout the year.

Hagood Mill will also be hosting a variety of folk life and traditional arts demonstrations — blacksmithing, bowl-digging, flint knapping, chair-caning, moonshining, broom-making, basket-making, pottery, quilting, spinning, knitting, weaving, woodcarving, metal-smithing, bee keeping, leather-working and more.

Visitors are encouraged to bring their favorite old time instruments and join in on the “open jam” which takes place throughout the day under the ancient cedar beside the 1791 log cabin.

Parking will be $5 but admission is free for the Hagood Mill site and the Hagood Creek Petroglyph Site.

Hagood Mill is located at 138 Hagood Mill Road.
