Anderson man charged with tax evasion

Staff Report

ANDERSON COUNTY — Jones “Cleve” McCall of Anderson County was arrested last week on three counts of tax evasion after a joint investigation with S.C. Department of Revenue investigators and the narcotics division of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.

From January 2012 to December 2015, McCall failed to report over $875,000 of retail sales to the SCDOR and evaded over $52,000 of sales tax due to the state of South Carolina. Additionally, synthetic cannabinoid products were sold in his retail store, Aggression Studios.

McCall is currently being held at the Anderson County Detention Center pending a bond hearing. If convicted, the defendant faces up to five years in prison and/or $10,000 in fines per count.

The SCDOR is committed to the fair administration of tax laws. By taking enforcement action against noncompliant taxpayers, the Department seeks to prevent unfairly increasing the tax burden on those who do comply.
