PICKENS COUNTY — In recognition of National Hospice Month, Providence Care is offering up to $25,000 in vouchers to vulnerable senior citizens in Pickens County.

“As our population continues to age there are more and more seniors in need of financial assistance for basic needs,” said Kiersten Carroll, Providence Care executive director. “The Providence Care Foundation is giving back to the county where our company first was started — Pickens. This is where we first started: out of a kitchen in Easley. We have always over-served the under-served and now, five years later, our success has allowed us to continue to go even further in helping those seniors most vulnerable.”

According to Carroll, the vouchers are good for everything from utility bills and housing expenses to medical supplies, caregiver services — even groceries. Qualifying vouchers will be awarded by a random drawing to be held Dec. 14.

“All services will be paid directly to the vendor on the applicant’s behalf by the Providence Care Foundation and each voucher will have a face value up to $500,” said Carroll.

To date, Providence Care has served over 1,200 people in 17 counties across the state. They are currently one of the only hospice programs in the state in which licensed physicians routinely make “house calls.”

“Through these years we have continued to see a need to help struggling seniors in the county we call home,” said Johnnie Garmon, president and founder of Providence Care. “According to experts, Pickens County’s senior population will double by 2030, resulting in a 100 percent increase in our senior population in less than 20 years so these needs will only become worse. Our Senior Support Program will help make the holidays for our seniors brighter.”
