PICKENS COUNTY — The Pickens County Council announced after executive session on Nov. 16 that the position of County Administrator has been offered to David Allen McNeill, the current County Operations Manager for Transylvania County, N.C.
According to information provided by the county, McNeill is directly responsible for Emergency Medical, Emergency Management, Addressing, Communications, Building and Grounds Maintenance, Animal Control and the office of Fire Marshal in Transylvania County.
Over the course of his 27 years of professional experience, McNeill has worked in Montgomery, Guilford and Moore Counties in North Carolina. Nineteen of those 27 years have been spent in Administrative Management. He holds a B.S. and a Masters of Public Affairs from Western Carolina University.
Although the final details of McNeill’s contract have yet to be hammered out, according to a 2007 article by the Greensboro News & Record, McNeill’s salary in 2007 was $152,000 when he was working as interim manager for Guilford County.
McNeill’s start date is scheduled for Jan. 4, 2016, at which point he will take over for Finance Director and Interim County Administrator Ralph Guarino.
McNeill’s appointment came after a 5-1 vote with Council Chair Jennifer Willis opposing.
“I know he (McNeill) comes to us with a healthy experience,” said City Attorney Ken Roper. “I know that all of us in the Council government are excited for him to get started.”
