PICKENS COUNTY — The Pickens Women Association (PWA) presented checks totaling $6,500 to five local charities at its September meeting. The charities included Feed a Hungry Child in Pickens County, The Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, Parenting Place, and Family Promise.

Also in May a $2,500 scholarship was presented to Anne Mason, a senior from Pickens High School.

“The main purpose of PWA is to assist local charities that work to improve the quality of life within our community,” said Dawn Dooley, president of PWA. “PWA’s only fundraiser is the annual Azalea Festival 5K Run/Walk event. The continued success of this event has allowed the association to increase the amount of funding to local charities.”

PWA also provides an annual scholarship to a female Pickens High School senior each year.

“It is our privilege to continue to support these vital organizations in the critical work they do for children and families within our community every day,” said Dooley.
