PICKENS COUNTY — Thanksgiving might be more than a week away but that didn’t keep Pickens County residents from beginning their Christmas preparations with an open house and a Holiday Bazaar Nov. 14.

Oh Joy of Pickens and the Pickens County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs both held kickoff events on Nov. 14 as the holiday season draws closer and residents came out in big numbers to help kick off the shopping season.

Decorations, wreaths, and gift ideas abounded and even those not quite ready for Christmas music and tree lightings could be seen with a sparkle in their eye as the hint of the giving season begins to break.

Handmade arts, crafts, jewelry and decorating ideas highlighted the two events, along with clothing, ornaments, and stylish alternatives to department store shopping.

Oh Joy has a bright and unique look for the holiday shopper with some innovative gift ideas including jewelry to be personalized for that special someone.

The Pickens County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs Holiday Bazaar was held with an eye on beginning the shopping season, but there were many items produced by the men and women who benefit most from the board’s work in Pickens County.

Bracelets, necklaces, and decorations of all kinds could be found, all made by the beneficiaries of the Pickens County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs program participants. The proceeds from the Holiday Bazaar will be used to expand the program offerings of the Pickens County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs.
