EASLEY — The United Way of Pickens County is looking for volunteers to staff our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites around Pickens County.
No experience is necessary. All volunteers will become IRS Certified Tax Preparers for free. The training can count toward continuing education credits for accountants and financial managers. Training begins in November and can be done online afterward through December.
Tax preparation will begin in mid-January. Volunteer should be prepared to donate at least three to five hours a week for the duration of tax season. Tax preparation sites will be in Liberty, Central, Easley and Pickens.
In the past, people have received an average of $1,022 in tax refunds. This can have a significant impact on the quality of life of some individuals and families. This is also a great opportunity for accounting and financial management students to get experience in tax preparation and in working with the general public on financial matters. This is a chance to do well in your community while also receiving valuable work experience.
VITA is a joint project of the United Way of Pickens and Greenville counties. It contributes to the United Way’s mission to help working families and individuals become more financially stable and independent. Volunteers interested in helping can contact Jeremy Price at 864-850-7094, ext. 133 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
