DACUSVILLE — The Dacusville Community Club is in the midst of a transformation.

Since mid-August, the former elementary school has been undergoing a Halloween metamorphosis, slowly becoming an abode for goblins, witches and ghouls — all in preparation for the inaugural Haunted Halls running the month of October concluding with a costume ball.

Home Town Entertainment is presenting Haunted Halls during October along with a costume ball and hopes this is just the beginning.

“We’d like for this to become an annual event,” said Joshua Holloway, president of Home Town. “We’ve been working pretty much every spare moment we’ve had on the Haunted Halls. Building sets, setting up the props, finding actors — it takes time to get everything just right.”

A portion of the proceeds from Haunted Halls will benefit Miracle Hill Children’s Home in Pickens as well as the Dacusville Community Club.

“My family lives here in Dacusville and we just wanted to do more,” said Holloway. “Ever since we joined the Community Club we’ve wanted to take on a more active role in the community.”

When asked if Haunted Halls was family friendly, Holloway hesitated.

“It’s essentially a haunted house, so it’s scary. It’s meant to be frightening,” he said. “The costume ball though, that’s just good old fashioned fun and 100 percent of the proceeds are going to Miracle Hill Children’s Home.

“You know, you just don’t see too many ‘town hall dances’ anymore,” continued Holloway. “My wife has been wanting to go to a costume ball forever — and you just can’t find them. So we decided to put on one of our own.”

The ball will run from 8 p.m. to midnight. When? Well, on Halloween, of course.

“How can you have it on any other date?” Holloway said and laughed. “It had to be on Halloween. But it’s not just a ball, there’s a costume contest too. Actually, we just found out that Direct Tools Factory Outlet is donating our grand prize for Best Costume — a Ryobi 40 volt electric chainsaw.”

Haunted Halls will run the first four Fridays and Saturdays in October beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 a person. Ages 16 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is at least 18 years of age. Both events will be held at the Dacusville Community Club, 2671 Earls Bridge Road in Easley.

First place prize is a chainsaw?

“Well, you know, this is Dacusville …,” he said.
