Bob Jones University

GREENVILLE – Bob Jones University named several local residents to the President’s List and the Dean’s List for the Spring 2015 semester.

Allison Burns of Pickens, Johnathan Dickson of Easley, Douglas Gutschow of Easley and Luke Hall of Easley were among approximately 480 Bob Jones University students named to the President’s List for high academic achievement during the Spring 2015 semester. To qualify for the President’s List, students must earn a 3.75 or higher GPA.

Marilyn Bielmyer of Central, Rebecca Jones of Easley, Jordan Kelley of Easley and Tanya Mann of Easley were among approximately 830 Bob Jones University students named to the Dean’s List for academic achievement during the Spring 2015 semester. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn a 3.00-3.74 GPA.

Clarkson University

POTSDAM, N.Y. — Stuart R. Synakowski of Cleveland, S.C., a junior majoring in applied mathematics and statistics and physics, was named a Presidential Scholar for the spring 2015 semester at Clarkson University. Presidential Scholars must achieve a minimum 3.80 grade-point average and carry at least 14 credit hours.

Clemson University

GREENVILLE — Janelle H. Cheung of Central and Marharyta (Margo) Petukh of Clemson were recognized as Outstanding Graduate Researchers, and Christopher Mayerl of Central and Sarah E. Anderson of Central were recognized as Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistants during Clemson University’s summer graduation ceremony.

Coastal Carolina University

CONWAY — Several local residents were named to Coastal Carolina University’s President’s honor list for high academic achievement and to the Dean’s List for the Spring Semester 2015.

Victoria Green of Liberty and Joan Medvar of Pickens were named to the President’s honor list while Chandler Baldwin of Liberty and Samuel Shands of Easley were named to the Dean’s List.

East Tennessee State University

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — Mary Lee Campbell of Liberty, S.C., and Kimberly D. Shirley of Marietta, S.C., were named to the Dean’s List at East Tennessee State University for the spring 2015 semester. To receive this honor, students must successfully complete a minimum of 12 hours of undergraduate coursework with a grade point average of at least 3.7 on a 4.0 scale.

GREENVILLE — Vincent Dowling of Easley was among the 649 students who graduated from Furman University on May 9, 2015.

GREENVILLE — Amanda Burth, Mara Chamlee, Vincent Dowling, Taylor Jenkins and Michele Manceor were named to the Dean’s List at Furman University for the 2015 spring semester. Furman’s Dean’s List is composed of full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.4 or higher on a four-point system.

Georgia Institute of Technology

ATLANTA, Ga. — Jason Byers of Easley, S.C., earned a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Byers was among approximately 2,700 undergraduate and graduate students who received degrees during Georgia Tech’s 249th commencement exercises held May 1 and May 2 at the McCamish Pavilion.

Lander University

GREENWOOD — Lander University conferred degrees upon 293 graduates at the university’s spring commencement ceremony in May. Cameron Dorn, the 2010 Lander graduate who has become famous as a record-setting endurance athlete and distance runner, delivered the keynote address before a full house at the university’s Horne Arena. HARROGATE, Tenn. — Chelsea Barnes-Walker of Easley, S.C., received a Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Medical Technology and Jessica Francis of Easley, S.C., received a Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Medical Technology from Lincoln Memorial University on May 8, 2015.

George D. Kuh, adjunct research professor of education policy at the University of Illinois and Chancellor’s Professor of Higher Education Emeritus at Indiana University gave the commencement address.

Marist College

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Amy Keller of Clemson, S.C., received a Master of Arts degree in Integrated Marketing Communication from Marist College the weekend of May 23, 2015.

Mars Hill University

MARS HILL, N.C. – Four Easley residents were named to the Honor Roll of the Academic Dean at the end of the Spring 2015 semester at Mars Hill University. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 on a minimum of 12 semester hours, and carry no grade below a C.

The students were Lyndsey Christine Cain, Grace Kelli Lancaster, Zachary David Lappin and Maggie Sue Mills.

MUSC’s College of Dental Medicine

CHARLESTON — Daniel Hall, son of John and Lynn Hall and an Easley native, graduated from MUSC’s College of Dental Medicine this spring. Following graduation from Easley High School, Hall attended Wofford College in Spartanburg. After four years at MUSC’s Dental Program, Hall is undertaking a General Practice Residency program with an emphasis in patient comfort and implant dentistry. Following this residency, he will join the dental practice of Dr. James Lynn in Easley.

Mercer University

MACON, Ga. — Bethany Alexander of Six Mile, S.C., was named to the Dean’s List of Mercer University’s Tift College of Education for the spring 2015 semester. Inclusion on this list requires students to meet rigorous grade-point-average standards specific to the college or school within the University.

Newberry College

NEWBERRY — Daniel Warren Nations from Central and Alexa Hope Wood from Pickens were named to the Dean’s List at Newberry College. Students receiving recognition on the Dean’s List at Newberry College had to achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale during the semester.

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Carl V. Schmidt of Easley, S.C., graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Oregon State University during its 146th commencement held June 13, 2015.

Pratt Institute

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Julia Seel of Central, S.C., was named to the President’s List for the Spring 2015 semester at Pratt Institute.

Samford University

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Emilie M White of Easley, S.C., was named to the Spring 2015 Dean’s List at Samford University. White is a sophomore Pre-Architecture major.

To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must have earned a minimum 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0 while attempting at least 12 credit hours of coursework. Dean’s List is the highest academic recognition given by the school at the end of each semester.

The Citadel

CHARLESTON — Andrew Case of Pickens, John-Thomas Edwards of Pickens and William Plummer of Easley were members of The Citadel Class of 2015 recognized for excellence in leadership, service and academics. The South Carolina Corps of Cadets celebrated the graduation of 430 seniors from 34 states on May 9, 2015.

In addition, Christopher Campion of Easley and Andrew Case of Pickens took oaths accepting their appointments as officers in the U.S. armed services.

University of Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. — Connor W. Beckerle from Clemson, S.C., graduated from the University of Oklahoma this spring.

University of the Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — Ian McKenzie of Easley, S.C., graduated from University of the Cumberlands with an MAT degree in P12 Physical Education on May 9, 2015. Dr. Billy Kim, chairman of the Far East Broadcasting Company in Korea, gave the commencement speech.

Wisconsin Lutheran College

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Kelsey Wetzel of Easley, S.C., was named to Wisconsin Lutheran College’s Dean’s List for the spring semester. Wetzel graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran College on May 16, 2015, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology.

Wofford College

SPARTANBURG — Wofford College conferred degrees to 368 graduates at the 161st commencement exercises on May 17, 2015. Area students receiving degrees were:
