Police arrest five on methamphetamine charges

LaGrange Police arrested five on drug charges while serving arrest warrants Friday at the Quality Inn and Suites in the 100 block of Jameson Drive. The Special Investigation Unit and Patrol Division arrived to serve warrants when they found suspects in possession of drugs.

Laura Goins, of Valley, Ala., James Gordy, of Valley, Ala., James McDonald, of Opelika, Ala., and Andrew Keith Smith, of LaGrange, were in the room when police allegedly saw drug related items in plain view, according to a police report. During the search, numerous smoking devices and an amount of methamphetamine were found.

SIU determined that all suspects were allegedly smoking methamphetamine when officers arrived the report said.

After searching Gordy’s car, police found another smoking device as well as methadone pills for which he did not have a prescription for.

During the investigation, authorities received information that led them to Wendy’s located in the 1500 block of Lafayette Parkway, where police found Steven Gearhart who was found to be in possession of methamphetamine in a quantity and package that is indicative with distribution according to the report.

Gordy was arrested on possession of methamphetamine and possession of schedule 2 narcotic charges. Gearhart was arrested on possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute charges. Goins, McDonald and Smith were arrested on possession of methamphetamine charges.
