Grassroots group concerned about education in whole county

March 25, 2014

Dear Editor,

I am writing on behalf of Concerned Citizens of Pickens County in an effort to inform the good people of Pickens County about who we are, where we are from, and what our motives are.

Who, When, Where and Why?

There were initially 4 Christian ladies who came together to create Concerned Citizens on January 30 in response to the potential loss of accreditation in the school district of Pickens County. Today we are supported by moms, dads, grandparents, current and former school teachers, community and business leaders who believe wholeheartedly in education as a vital cornerstone of economic stability and prosperity in Pickens County.

Who Is Our Opposition?

Those who oppose public education and who oppose economic development in Pickens County oppose us. Patriotic residents who love Pickens County thank us for what we are doing.

What Does CCPC hope to accomplish?

Our goals are to promote excellence in education and prosperity in Pickens County, but we must first end the standoff between our school district and the taxpayers. Some Pickens County residents have been manipulated into thinking that the school district wastes their hard-earned tax dollars, but the truth is that Pickens County residents pay LESS in school taxes than 90% of all South Carolinians and spend less per student than 80% of all other South Carolina school districts.

Concerned Citizens wants you to realize what a goldmine you have right here in Pickens County! We want to unleash the productive genius of Pickens County students by partnering with global industry leaders that are located right here! Your school district is working to provide new businesses with the guarantee of a customized workforce. Your business community is working to create new jobs, reduce unemployment and increase local tax revenue. But none of this is possible if we don’t make education a priority in Pickens County.

We believe this is a pivotal moment in Pickens County and invite you to help us make Pickens County the best place to live, learn, work and retire.
