Woman loses $500 cash, person of interest sought

WALHALLA — The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help to find a man who picked up an envelope of cash dropped accidentally at a gas station.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a woman reported that she was in Countryside Exxon, 102 Cross Roads Drive in the Tokeena Crossroads Community, around 5:40 p.m. Jan. 5. She told deputies she dropped a bank envelope containing $500 in cash while she was there.

The woman told deputies that she went back to the business when she realized it was missing but could not find it.

The sheriff’s office did identify a person of interest in the case and is asking the public’s help finding him. He is described as a white male in his mid-30s, tall with a slender build and possible facial hair. The man was wearing a red, white and blue bandanna and was in the store at the time.
