Warriors turned back by Coastal Georgia

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Southern Wesleyan men’s basketball dropped their fourth straight on the road and second straight overall on Feb. 1, losing 91-72 to Coastal Georgia in a Southern States Athletic Conference contest.


The Warriors (10-9, 5-5 SSAC) were down by just five with 7:14 to play but the Mariners (9-13, 4-7 SSAC) closed the game on a 22-8 run. Coastal Georgia led 40-33 at the half after outscoring the Warriors 10-4 in the final two minutes of the half. SWU led on two different occasions early on in the half but then got in a hole they couldn’t get out of.


Cameron Solomon poured in 24 points on 8-of-20 shooting to lead the Warriors. He also made 7-of-11 from the free throw line and grabbed six rebounds in 35 minutes of action. Terrance Hutchins came off the bench to score 21, making three of the team’s seven three-pointers. Hutchins also had four assists.


Coastal Georgia was led by Kentorey Johnson’s 28 points and 10 rebounds. The Mariners shot 53 percent from the floor while the Warriors shot just 44 percent. Coastal Georgia made 20-of-30 (67 percent) in the second half.


These two teams will meet again in Tysinger on Feb. 20. The Warriors were back in action Tuesday, stepping out of conference play to battle Bob Jones University in Greenville.
